Meta’s annual Connect conference is nearly here, and this year’s spotlight is firmly on smart glasses and AI-powered hardware. CEO Mark Zuckerberg will deliver the keynote on Wednesday at 8PM ET / 5PM PT, where we expect big updates about Meta’s Ray-Ban and Oakley collaborations, new display-enabled glasses, and more AI announcements.
Smart Glasses with a Display and Wristband
According to CNBC, Meta will introduce new smart glasses codenamed Hypernova, featuring a tiny display in the right lens controlled via a wristband. The band uses surface electromyography (sEMG) technology from CTRL-Labs, interpreting electrical signals from hand movements. This innovation could redefine how users interact with devices.
The glasses are expected to cost around $800 and may be thicker than earlier models. A leaked video also showed branding for Meta | Ray-Ban Display, hinting at a near-launch.
Smart Glasses Without a Display
Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses continue to perform well, with over 2 million units sold. Reports suggest that third-generation Ray-Ban Metas will be unveiled at Connect, potentially adding features like 3K video resolution and improved battery life.
A leaked video also teased wraparound Oakley “Sphaera” glasses featuring a nose-bridge camera, pointing to further expansion of Meta’s wearable lineup.
New Quest VR Headsets?

While Meta released the Quest 3 (2023) and Quest 3S (2024), a new Quest headset is not expected this year. Instead, reports point to an ultra-light VR headset running Horizon OS, but it’s not due until 2026. Meta is also partnering with Lenovo and Asus to license Horizon OS, and Asus may debut a headset codenamed Tarius with eye and face tracking.
More Meta AI
Like much of the tech industry, Meta is doubling down on AI integration. Expect updates to the Meta AI app, which supports AI-generated creations, and expanded AI features for existing smart glasses. These enhancements could bring smarter productivity, creativity, and social tools across Meta’s ecosystem.
With a mix of new smart glasses, AI tools, and future VR updates, Meta Connect 2025 could mark a major milestone in the company’s push toward AI-driven hardware and immersive experiences.
